Plastic and hard waste

Raja Ampat has a plastic and hard waste problem.
Rubbish is generated by homestays, liveaboards and nearby cities, including huge amounts of plastic. the islands of Raja Ampat have no government-run trash collection service and rubbish in nearby cities routinely ends up in rivers that dump it into the sea.
Paraodically, the same currents that feed Raja Ampat’s reefs also form giant slicks of TRASH that endanger corals and marine animals.
THIS IS NOT AI-GENERATED AND IT MAKES US FEEL SICK.
BUT just FEELING SAD OR ANGRY DOESN’t solve the problem. So we took action.
Soul Initiatives NOW manages a comprehensive waste management system for the islands of kri, mansuar and arborek.
We work with homestay owners, villages that manage beach access, school students and other organisations to collect, sort and recycle plastic, bottles, electronics, clothing, shoes and other hard waste so that it stays away from the reefs.
